The human situation with its rough edges which are at the same time not
devoid of poetry are transmuted on the canvasses of Gieve Patel. Acutely conscious of the
ordinary man his figures are often set within cityscapes and as they go about performing
their chores, there is close observation of their clothes, postures and stances. The brush
with reality allows the painter to then explore its complex facets.
Patel lives and works in Mumbai.
