Ranbir Singh Kaleka Ranbir Kaleka was born in Punjab in 1953. He received his Diploma from
Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1975 and taught it the Fine Arts Department of the
University till 1977 and at the Delhi College of Art, London between 1985-87. Apart from
holding many solo shows Kaleka has participated in 'Contemporary Indian Art',
'Royal Academy of Art', London 1982, India: Myth and Reality, Museum of Modem Art, oxford,
1982, 'Contemporary Indian Art', Grey Art Gallery', .'4ew York, 1985, Pennsylvania, 1986,
Burlington, U.S. 1987. de has also exhibited at 'Coup De Coeur 'Festival of India',
Geneva, 1987, 'Indian Winter' Smith Jariwala Gallery, London, 1995, 'Fine Sight' West
London Artists, Pitshanger Manor , Gallery, London, 1995. Kaleka received the Sanskriti
Award, ,4ew Delhi in 1986.
An assemblage of real objects in strange and perplexing ) placements
creates a hypnotic world in Kaleka's paintings. The Visionary colors and hybrid creatures
could emanate from a range which nonetheless is grounded in reality.
Kaleka lives and works in Britain.
